The food offerings are diverse, pleasing a range of palates and adding to the all-encompassing feel of the vacation.
Activities abound, with highlights including dance classes that deliver both fun and cultural immersion. The professional yet respectful instructors, such as the noted Jorge Marin, bring an energetic dynamic to the resort’s offerings. For business travelers, the resort also provides relevant amenities, positioning itself as versatile and accommodating.
While some guests describe MELIA CAYO SANTA MARIA as ideally meeting basic beach holiday needs, others return year after year, drawn by the consistent quality and heartfelt hospitality. It is this balance—the peaceful beach setting combined with an enthusiastic, caring team—that defines the resort’s spirit. Visitors are advised to bring essentials like medication and bug spray, reflecting the local supply realities, but this minor note does not overshadow the overall warmth and appeal of the experience.
Ultimately, MELIA CAYO SANTA MARIA offers a reliable, engaging Cuban escape. It captures the essence of a tranquil beach getaway infused with vibrant cultural moments and human connection—qualities that resonate deeply with those who value kindness, authenticity, and memorable hospitality.

What a lovely stay! Relaxing. Friendly people, great staff. We're coming back next year! BTW bring advil, Tylenol, bug spray and candy and anything you can bring. Cubans don't have good access to these things
This is my favorite hotel in Cuba! It's small size keeps everything easy to get to. Quiet yet fun. Best beach in the Cayo. But the #1 reason why this hotel is #1 in my heart: THE STAFF. The Customer service and Animation teams are rock stars! They always go above and beyond to ensure a perfect experience The bar staff are friendly and efficient and quickly learn your favorite drinks! The waiters and waitresses are super attentive and will great you with a huge smile . Everyone from the cleaning staff, the pool staff, the beach staff, the gardeners and let's not forget the awesome Reception team have distinguished themselves as being the best staff in Cuba. They are truly unique and unforgettable. I know things are rough in Cuba right now, but you don't go there for the food, you go there for the experience. I recommend this hotel 400%.
Title: Perfectly Adequate, But Utterly Forgettable The Meliá Cayo Santa María is a study in averages. It fulfills the basic requirements of a beach holiday but fails to deliver any memorable qualities or the true "all-inclusive" experience one might expect. The grounds are pleasant but lack the lush, dense vegetation typical of other Cuban resorts, resulting in a somewhat sparse feel and very little shade. The beach is nice—certainly better than what you'd find in Greece or Croatia—but by Cuban standards, it is just average, with many other resorts offering more stunning shorelines. (Iberostar Selection Ensenachos, Coral Ensenachos, Playa Luxury Cayo Guillermo or even the Royalton Cayo Santa María) The rooms are dated but functional, and the lack of thick vegetation means they are not overly dark. A significant downside is the food. The selection is limited, the quality is consistently average, and hygiene standards are a concern, as is common in many Cuban hotels. The "all-inclusive" concept feels misleading. During our stay in the low season, the buffet was closed, and at an à la carte dinner on 22.10.2025, a young waiter firmly informed me we were limited to only one main dish per person, despite the portions being very small. While an older waitress later apologized, the initial interaction was disappointing and left a sour taste. On a positive note, the staff is generally friendly, the gym is ok, and the compact size of the resort makes it a good choice for guests with mobility issues. Verdict:This hotel serves its purpose if you're looking for a simple, no-frills beach getaway. However, there is nothing—from the food to the amenities to the overall atmosphere—that would make me want to return. It is simply another hotel in a sea of similar options, with no distinguishing features to set it apart.
First time in Cuba and this resort was for sure a great choice for a couple’s vacation. Great rooms, super clean. Amazing beaches with warm water and plenty of space. Great variety of activities from which dance classes (Merengue and Salsa) were the most surprising. Instructor Jorge Marin (if you read this a big thank you from “Romeo” ) is very strict and professional but also very respectful to someone who danced more in Cuba than in the rest of his life. Always available to correct what’s wrong and show the proper way of doing it right. Also the sailing on the beach was a relaxing experience even though we could do it for an extra hour or two. If we return to Cuba, Melia Cayo Santa Maria will for sure be at the top of our choices, and we hope we show a better
I have been here over 20 times and continue to book trips. The service at this hotel is like no where else. The staff is absolutely amazing and they make this hotel what it is. Rooms are big and clean. The food selection is great. The beach is absolutely amazing. The entertainment team always has fun activities for the guests at the beach or at the pool and amazing evening entertainment. In all my trips here I have never had any issues
My husband and I have spent a beautiful time at this resort so far. Just wanted to mentioned the shows at nighttime are great, they are great and beautiful dancers doing their best to keep us entertained. Great job to all of them: Roxana, Isel y Rachel...keep it up the good job and those beautiful smiles Ynes and Gabriel.
Came to Meliá Cayo Santa Maria on what is my 8th trip for my best friends 25x2 birthday trip As always Melia and her team don’t disappoint. From our rooms being perfect from the minute we get there until we leave, we are always taken care of. Daily water and soda service, to wine for being repeat guests. Water pressure and temperature was great throughout the whole week. The pool was as relaxing as ever with soft music during the day to the great salsa lessons starting after 3pm. Can’t say enough of the gorgeous beach at Melia, one of the most perfect beaches I have visited in my life. The team makes sure to keep her clean and ready for all her guests. Thank you to Papa for always having our chairs ready for us first thing in the morning. To the enthusiastic entertainment staff, the ones that keep us moving all day from the morning stretch on the beach, Merengue lessons, volleyball, salsa lessons, the shows at night and the evening Disco, thank you for all the effort you always put in. From the entertainment boss Arel and his right hand man Darbel, to the two best DJ’s Alex and the newest member Julio, Felipe and Nayibi, Jorge and Alberto - thank you for always keeping us entertained. The food was amazing on this trip, so fresh and so much selection. It was great seeing so many guests that week including a group of about 50 celebrating a Vow renewal. Thank you to all the staff for taking care of us. The repeat guest dinner was so beautiful and on top of that the next day they did a repeat guest dinner and show in the Pueblo La Estrella for ALL the repeat guest on the Cayo’s, what an experience. I can’t wait for my next trip and if I am lucky enough I’ll get to celebrate my birthday there next year.
